Workers Compensation Insurance protects business owners against the financial responsibility of an injury or illness to an employee. It transfers the responsibility for medical and rehabilitation costs from the business owner to the insurance carrier.

WHAT IS WORK COMP?

The State of California requires by law that all employers, across all industries, must carry Workers Compensation coverage on their employees. Whether the employee is W2’d or 1099’d, the employer must carry Workers Compensation.

WHO NEEDS WORK COMP?

Failing to have workers compensation coverage is a criminal offense. Section 3700.5 of the California Labor Code makes it
a misdemeanor punishable by either a fine of not less
than $10,000 or imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year, or both.
